Cheers all for comments.

Ad, I might well try the 'steering wheel comparison method' to sort my bars.

Mark, yeah, I think I'll just leave the AIS on as it doesn't do much and I can't be bothered to take it off. Doesn't disturb me optically either.

Mike, You found me out! I get very confused with all the variables that affect these things.

My Fazer was very poorly set up by a complete muppet when I got it. (I'm only half a muppet). I have my preload standard at the rear and fully soft at the front because I am a lightweight (13 stone suited & booted). Compression damping is just harder than standard at the back, just softer than standard at the front, likewise rebound. I think it's about right for my weight. My big confession  is that although I've replaced the rear tyre with a BT020 I am still running the MEZ4 up front until it's a bit more worn. I realise this doesn't help but I'm too tight to bin a half-used tyre. An 020f will follow in due course. Maybe I should revert to standard fork height.
